在馬倫巴回學校的路上，有間門口放著冰櫃的便利店，只要在午夜左右、商店打烊前路過，一定會瞄到有隻黑貓直挺挺坐在冰櫃上。
但是某天、同樣時間、同樣在商店打烊前，黑貓的位置變成一顆黑色安全帽了！
：為什麼平常那隻黑貓不見了？今天是黑色安全帽耶！天哪！還是黑貓變身？
：那街上的貓咪都會變身嗎？左前方那隻橘貓呢？啊橘貓感覺不會！
：那真理呢！真理也會這個嗎！（註：我的租屋處有隻室友養的黑貓名叫真理）
「恩⋯⋯有名字的貓就有沒辦法再變形了吧！」
儘管如此，我們在家時還是會讓這隻貓不斷變形，
（摸他兩下他逃走了）：真理又離我而去。
（他在房間門口探頭但不肯進去）：真理不入我家門。
（貓咪們互毆但他記仇一直哈氣兇別人）：真理總是雙標的。
（他坐在黑色板磚前一動不動）：真理會隱形耶。
真理可能覺得很煩吧，但他也沒辦法再變形了。
不知道人類的文字變形術在什麼條件下，能和貓咪的變形術一樣消失？你知道嗎？你猜？我猜？
本檔展覽的作品是一組擁有黑色毛皮的現成物；有黑色安全帽、黑膠唱片、馬克杯……它們或許都是真理化身成為的、它們或許都叫做真理。若您願意加入這個譬喻系統遊戲，此後每次看到黑色安全帽、看到黑貓，你都知道那是「真理」。
On the way back to school from Marimba, there is a convenience store with a freezer out front. Whenever I pass by around midnight, just before the store closes, I always catch sight of a black cat sitting perfectly upright on top of the freezer.
But one night, at the same time, just before the store closed as usual, the black cat was gone. In its place was a black motorcycle helmet!
“Where’s that black cat that’s usually there? Tonight it’s a black helmet! Oh my god—did the black cat transform?”
“Then can all the cats on the street transform? What about that orange cat up ahead on the left? Ah, no. The orange one doesn’t seem like it can.”
“Then what about Zhenli? Can Zhenli do this too?”
(Note: Zhenli is my roommate’s black cat. His name, 真理, also means “truth” in Chinese.)
“Hmm... I guess a cat with a name can’t transform anymore, right?”
And yet, at home, we keep transforming this cat through language.
(I pet him twice and he runs away.)
“Truth has left me once again.”
(He peeks through my bedroom door but refuses to come in.)
“Truth will not enter my door.”
(The cats mess with each other, but he holds a grudge and keeps hissing at the others.)
“Truth always has double standards.”
(He sits perfectly still in front of a black tile.)
“Look, Truth can turn invisible.”
Zhenli probably finds all this rather annoying. But there’s nothing he can do—he can’t transform anymore.
I wonder: under what conditions could our human trick of transforming things through words disappear, just as the cats’ ability to transform does? Do you know? Any guesses? Shall I guess?
This exhibition consists of a group of found objects covered in black fur: a black motorcycle helmet, a vinyl record, a mug, and more. Perhaps they are all forms that Zhenli has taken. Perhaps they are all called Zhenli—Truth.
If you are willing to enter this game of metaphors, then from now on, whenever you see a black motorcycle helmet, whenever you see a black cat, you’ll know:
that is “Truth.”

吳宥嫺，2006年生，屬狗，北藝大美術系理論組在學中。
研究方向聚焦於當代的社會氛圍中，藝術還有哪些可能的姿態。創作與思考多半來自於文學中的理解，相信閱讀世界的過程就像卡爾維諾筆下不斷裝訂錯誤、卻又精密狡猾的書構章節。
Wu You-Hsien, born in 2006, Year of the Dog, is currently studying in the Theory Division of the Department of Fine Arts at Taipei National University of the Arts.
Her research focuses on the possible positions art can still take within the contemporary social climate. Her artistic practice and thinking are largely informed by literature. She believes that reading the world is much like the chapters of a book imagined by Italo Calvino: continually misbound, yet intricately and cunningly constructed.
