Left Hand, Right Hand, The Hand That Draws — Hsin Hwang Drawings Exhibition

In the cracks of daily life, the hand is often more honest than time.

This exhibition captures the fleeting fragments of imagination that Hsin Hwang seizes from her fragmented daily life: waiting for a bus, or sitting by the bedside late at night. These lines, emerging from her pen before they could even be planned, document the artist's most private intuitions.

Traditionally right-handed, Hsin has recently begun experimenting with drawing with her left hand, embarking on a micro-adventure between the hand and the body. To her, the right hand represents habit and control, while the left is a realm of trembling curiosity and uncertainty—a space that brings back the pure, childhood joy of simply wanting to draw. By breaking away from inertia and switching between her hands, the act of drawing has become fresh and playful once again.

Hsin Hwang

A graduate of the Royal College of Art with an MA in Print, Hsin Hwang’s practice spans painting, printmaking, and mixed media. Deeply influenced by fairy tales, mythology, and Jungian psychology, her work draws inspiration from dream imagery, faith, and personal experience to map the inner spiritual world. Her artistic footprint extends across Taiwan, the UK, South Korea, China, and Canada, with works showcased in numerous international exhibitions.

Having participated in artist residencies across China, South Korea, and Taiwan, she utilizes the residency format as a primary mode of exploration.
