Exhibition ░▒▓
Body as Experiment
Body as Experiment traces Gin-Yung's creative journey since 2023, beginning with nude photography and gradually expanding into an exploration of the relationships between human beings and the environment, the body and the act of looking. In the early stages of this practice, the body functioned more as a medium. Gin-Yung did not mind being seen nude, yet through making these works she began to pay closer attention to her physique, her presence before the camera, and the body's plasticity. In the process, she came to realize how unfamiliar she actually was with her own body. Through collaborations with different photographers, she not only searched for the shifting relationship between subject and object within image-making, but also slowly began to negotiate the distance between herself and her body.
At the same time, she continued to share both her work and daily life on social media, posting mirror selfies of herself brushing her teeth on Threads every day. What began as an unintentional form of everyday documentation became another site of experimentation after one post drew a flood of attention. Social media allowed her to glimpse how online society imagines the boundaries of the body, and turned the selfie from a tool of self-observation into a kind of magic mirror—one that tests the thresholds of public reception regarding bodily autonomy, the gaze, and liberation.
Over more than two years of making and experimenting, the distance between Gin-Yung and her body gradually narrowed, and that relationship moved from estrangement toward appreciation and affection. She began, then, to shift from being looked at to looking at herself: the lines of muscle and flesh, the grain and texture of skin, the reach of bodily posture. What **Body as Experiment** probes is not only the way society looks at the body, but also the extent to which she truly knows herself.
